Se hai conosciuto il Salento di due decenni fa, non può che farti vomitare quello che stanno facendo da Porto Cesareo, giù giù, fino a dopo Gallipoli... la gente del posto è rimasta a litigarsi gli ultimi dieci metri di spiaggia pubblica mentre i lidi continuano a spostare le sdraio un altro metro più in là, ancora uno, ancora un po', dai che ne infiliamo un'altra, e un'altra... c'è una mafia dietro da non ridere, ogni tanto incendiano un lido...
Il denaro si insinua nei rapporti umani, nelle comunità, tra la gente comune, corrodendogli l'animo.

Why on Earth would an Englishman want to teach himself German!? Is that the main reason behind your leaving Britain?

I'm just assuming you're Brit, though, but I like the detached way Brits dislike Germans, and the other way around too, since Krauts regularly call them "Inselaffen", monkeys living on an island...

The thing is, being born in a German-Italian family, you get to listen to that jingle quite often. The German tongue-twister I posted is a very common one for people who study German and want to test their ability with pronunciation, its got no story at all like its counterpart, but I reckon they must sound pretty much the same, the main beat at least seems to be the same.
It's just a stupid story about fisherman Fritz fishing fishes, not even that hard to pronounce once you get the hang of it.

My dad did his national service in Germany and learnt some German while he was there. He took us on holiday to Germany a couple of times which was fun. Hahaha I like the monkeys on an island bit (it's not far from the truth! I didn't know that's what the Germans say about us The Brits just have an aversion for anything Continental, full stop, but I think the aversion for the French is definitely the strongest (so you're doing OK). I'm the daughter of an Italian emigre to England who set up shop with one of the local lads. We have initiated a kind of generational relay because I came to live here and my eldest daughter has been living in the UK for the past four years. I'm quite happy to converse in English; your English is purrrfect
